Reflection
While taking the Curriculum Planning Course, I wrote a paper that shows my understanding of how I can use developmental assessment and theory information to inform practice. It summarizes the Montessori, High/Scope, Waldorf, Bank Street, Reggio Emilia and the Project approach and how each model fits into a certain continuum such as child or teacher centered, a structured or flexible environment, and a defined or emergent curriculum. I feel this paper does a great job of expressing my understanding of the various developmental theories and what I feel the best approach is to coincide with my teaching philosophy.
During my second practicum, I did a number of observations on toddlers and school aged children. These observations were documented in the following artifact LP2 Observing Play. I feel these observations do a great job of showing how through play, children learn and develop. After each observation, I provided an interpretation which shows the different stages of play and the development that I saw taking place. I believe that these observations were very detailed and provide a good example of my understanding of how to correlate the relationship between play and learning.
